Snowload Design

The importance of snowload design is a topic we were going to talk about on the blog...last December, not in April!  But since we keep getting these freak spring snowstorms with a lot of heavy snow, we thought it would be a great time to talk about it.  Lester Buildings has a great article talking about Snow Load.  Lester Buildings explains in the article how most people take for granted the tremendous stress their houses, businesses, barns and storage facilities must endure throughout the winter months.  These structures must support snow and ice, technically known as snow load, that falls during the winter.  Sometimes, buildings collapse under the weight that can accumulate in a large storm.  Just remember the Metradome in Minneapolis.  The simple fact is, while all builings are designed to carry some snow load, there's no guarantee that they will carry the same amount of snow load.  Most homes are required to be built well enough to survive winter's onslaught.  However, non dwelling businesses and ag buildings vary greatly.  That is why its up to the consumer to understand what they are buying.  It gives you something to think about when you are thinking of a new building.  And it's a factor that we take very serious and will do our best to help you when you purchase a building from Aschoff Construction.
